Maximizing Knowledge Points and Contribution to Guild Funds
Introduction
Are you looking to bolster our guild funds and contribute to the guild’s prosperity? Enchanting is currently an excellent profession for making steady gold in World of Warcraft (Retail), especially with concentration, which is expected to remain profitable throughout the expansion. This guide will help you level up the Enchanting profession quickly and efficiently, making it easy for guild members to contribute and to do for themselves (the only restriction on how much you can do this method, is how many characters you are willing to setup enchanting on).
This guide is intended to accompany the following video:
What You Need to Know Upfront
This will cost you 1 of your profession slots. If you don’t want to give up your main professions, feel free to do this on an alt.
Time required: When I recorded the video, it took me just under 3 hours to:
- Obtain the one-time treasures.
- Obtain the 2 weekly treasures from dirt piles + do the weekly quest, to start the catchup process.
- Buy all the materials + profession equipment.
- Level profession high enough to start crafting Rank 3 Enchants using Concentration and a mix of Rank 1 and Rank 2 materials (70-78 ish).
While there is no requirement to do this in a single session. Ideally, you would do all of this in a single reset period (Wednesday to Tuesday). As if you need multiple reset periods, you will need to do the weekly quest, and obtain the 2 weekly dirt pile treasures again, before you can continue to obtain the “catch up” “Shimmering Dust” items.
Why Enchanting?
Enchanting is not only a profitable profession but also one of the easiest to skill up and catch up on profession points. By following this guide, you can leverage Enchanting to generate steady income for guild necessities such as food, flasks, and other consumables. (Feel free to do this on as many characters as you like. The only limit is how many characters you are willing to dedicate to this project. It will not likely persist into the next expansion.)
Guild Contribution Plan / What will these funds be used for
We ask each guild member to donate a single profession slot on one character to Enchanting. It does not need to be your main character; an alt will work just as well. Here is how it works:
- Initial Setup: Follow the provided guide to level up Enchanting on your chosen character. This process should take about two to four hours, depending on your pace and any detours as well as accounting for RNG in looting weekly profession treasures.
- Materials: The guild will provide all necessary materials/gold needed to obtain the materials. It is expected that this will cost between 35k and 50k per character at current prices (2025-01-27)
- Daily Tasks: After the initial setup, log into your character every 2-3 days to craft 2-4 items using concentration. The exact number depends on procs.
- Guild Bank: Draw the required materials from the guild bank and deposit the crafted items back into it.
With sufficient participation, this initiative could become a significant source of revenue for our guild and mean that we do not rely so heavily on one or two people to donate significant amounts of time and gold to guild activities. As well as meaning we have sufficient guild funds to pay for any consumables, we might need for progress raids and organised events. As a stretch goal, we would also like to use these funds to enable free guild repairs (very helpful for those M+ nights!).
Levelling Guide
Step 1: Obtain Treasures
Start by obtaining the two treasures found in chests and dirt piles around Khaz Algar. These treasures are crucial for gaining initial knowledge points at a low cost.
Dirt Pile Treasure: Dirt piles are less conspicuous but equally rewarding. Keep an eye out for these unassuming mounds and interact with them to uncover hidden treasures. If you are having trouble seeing these dirt piles (piles of dirt around the world, with a purple outline), try using an “Inky Black Potion,” which should help make them stand out more clearly.

Step 2: One-Time Enchanting Treasures
Next, focus on collecting all one-time enchanting-specific treasures. These treasures will provide substantial boosts to your knowledge points and expedite the levelling process.
Step 3: Obtain your gear
| Item | Ilevel | Note | Price Range |
| Runed Bismuth Rod | 564 (Rank 5) | Resourcefulness + Ingenuity | 100g – 1000g |
| Weavercloth Enchanter’s Hat | 551 (Rank 5) | 70g – 200g | |
| Incanter’s Shard | 564 (Rank 5) | 100g – 1500g |
While levelling, we have a preference for the Resourcefulness proc, once we have levelled, the Ingenuity proc sometimes works out better. Don’t sweat it either way. As long as we have 1 or the other.
Step 3: Levelling the Profession
With the treasures obtained, begin levelling your Enchanting profession. Follow the steps outlined below to maximize your efficiency:
- Disenchant free gear from dungeons/quests
- Buy/obtain Darkmoon Cards and convert them into Darkmoon Decks to disenchant.
- Craft items in the following order: Green, Yellow, Orange for your current level. Always craft the thing least likely to give you a skillpoint, as you will be making one of everything anyway. Might as well get as many skillpoints out of it as you can.
- Save the Weapon Enchants for now. (Anything that requires Profaned Tinderboxes, we will craft these later with concentration at Rank 3 in order to make money!)
- Craft Patron Orders (New ones get added every day)
- Prioritise 1st time crafts to obtain first craft bonus getting the knowledge point and artisans acuity.
These steps should get us to skill level 50 – 51, where we can learn the 2nd specialization
Step 4: Choosing specializations
Your first specialization should be Ephemerals, Enrichments, and Equipment.
5 points into the core node.
15 points into Deceptive Decorations.
This is so that you unlock a large number of first-time crafts. Giving you back nearly all of the Knowledge Points spent and a decent chunk of Artisans Acuity.
For your second specialization, I recommend Everlasting Enchantments. (You CAN go Supplementary Shattering, however if you picked up any of the renown/nerubian based formulas on your travels, you will want to optimise for crafting those first. As once you spec into those, we can already start crafting with concentration and hitting Rank3 Crafts, using just Rank 1 and Rank 2 materials.)
Your Third Specialisation then should be Supplementary Shattering
And the Final specialisation would be Designated Disenchanter.
Step 4: Regular Crafting
Once your Enchanting profession is levelled, maintain a regular crafting schedule. Log into your character every 2-3 days to craft as many items as you can with your current concentration and ensure a steady supply of enchanted goods for the guild’s use and sale.
Help and Support
If you need any help or guidance, or have any questions please feel free to ask in guild chat, discord, or just message Djinni directly on discord.
Conclusion
By contributing to the guild’s Enchanting efforts, you will help build a robust financial foundation for our community. This initiative not only strengthens our guild but also creates an opportunity for each member to play a vital role in our collective success. Follow this guide, support your guild, and let’s make this expansion one of our most prosperous yet!
If you got the bug, you can apply these same concepts to other professions, such as Inscription, Blacksmithing, Jewelcrafting, Engineering
Optimisations
There is plenty of scope here to optimise your contributions including:
- Buying rare profession tools
- Making use of the “Shatter Essence” right at the start
- Making use of the “Phial of Bountiful Seasons”
- Purchasing additional formulas from rep vendors or the auction house as these will be in lower supply on the auction house and therefore have a higher sale price.
- Additionally levelling another profession such as Jewelcrafting, Blacksmithing, Inscription or Engineering. However, these all require much more work to setup and catch up with. As you can only obtain catch up knowledge points from the patron orders (1-5 each day).
